The scene represents a woman in a small single-masted open boat when sea level has risen and flooded London, which is now mostly underwater. On the left horizon is Battersea Power Station afloat and on the left horizon is the Thames Light Vessel. The picture is titled 'Welcome to your World' – in other words: "Look what you've done."
The faceted face is a kind of fractured witness to what's happened. Her forehead seems to melt like polar ice. The title is sharp, like an accusation, but also like a courtroom exhibit label: this is the outcome; now look at it.
Battersea Power Station afloat is a relic of heavy industry turned into a drifting monument.
The Thames Light Vessel: an object that already belongs to river/sea navigation, is now made ominously 'at home' in a flooded city.
The subject's face aims to occupy the frame like a conscience you can't look away from, while the disaster sits muted behind her – almost like background information you're trying not to see.
